The sky has turned dramatic with magnificent clouds and the Sun is winding down. A boy is playing with the soccer ball and I clicked the shot as he was getting ready to kick the ball.

Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II - An amazing lens http://www.nagrotte.com/blog/2014/12/nikon-af-s-70-200mm-f/2-8g-ed-vr-ii---an-amazing-lens Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II - is an amazing lens. Although not many Photographers can afford it (costs around 2,500 USD) , this lens is a must have for every Nikon photographer. I recently rented this lens and took some family portraits in a near by community park. This park is pretty ordinary without any significant aesthetics, yet I was amazed by the quality of pictures this lene has pulled out- absolutely outstanding!!!

Eggplant Curry http://www.nagrotte.com/blog/2014/12/eggplant/brijal-curry The eggplant (a.k.a. Brinjal) curry is very famous in in India , especially in Andhra Pradesh/Telangana (South Indian regions) , when prepared in a very special way. This preparation includes grounding many spices and add them carefully in a very precise measurement.

First , the indian spices - Ground nut, Sesame seeds, Dhania (Cilantro seeds/coriander seeds), dry red chillies, cloves, cardamom, fenugreek etc  are dry roasted and grounded coarsely.

A separate wet mixture is prepared by grounding fresh green Cilantro , green chillies, tamarind, 5-10 cloves of garlic, curry leaves, turmeric etc

Oil is  heated in a wide bowl and mustard seeds , jeera , chilli seeds are added to oil. When they start popping up, add the above 2 grounded.mixture to the oil. Salt and Red chilli powder is also added. Let this mixture fry in oil until it becomes golden brown.

In a separate bowl, fry eggplants until they become tender. Then add the eggplant to the fried mixture of spices. Let it cook for 5-10 minutes. Add butter milk t this mixture and let it cook for 5 more minutes.

After it is cooked, take the curry in to a serving bowl and garnish it with Cilantro and Mint leaves. Server hot. This will be good eat with rice or roti(indian bread)

Blue http://www.nagrotte.com/blog/2014/11/blue My daughter was wearing a blue nail polish , quite an un-usual color I thought. I just started clicking away the pictures. When I started post processing of those pictures , I thought just one or two picture came out well to my satisfaction. Considering the mood and lighting of this scene , I thought selective color is appropriate to bring out the bright blue color and add some kind of mysticism.

This picture was taken with NIKON D7100 body and Sigma 70-300mm lens.

Winter Berries http://www.nagrotte.com/blog/2014/11/winter-berries These little fruits appear almost everywhere in town. They do not let you go unnoticed with their characteristic bright red color. I spotted this bunch at a park. I held my camera up to take the picture as the vine was on top of the tree; the background bright blue sky.

National Geographic Seminar on Landscape and Nature Photography in Houston http://www.nagrotte.com/blog/2014/11/national-geographic-seminar-on-landscape-and-nature-photography-in-houston National Geographic Seminar on Landscape and Nature Photography in Houston

VLOG # 3: National Geographic Seminar on Landscape and Nature Photography in Houston

Recently (about 3 weeks back) , I happened to attend a Seminar on Landscape and Nature Photography by National Geographic. Many people attended this seminar. It was a whole day event. It was organized in University of St. Thomas in Houston. The guest speakers were well known National Geographic Contributors - Michael Melford and Eddie Soloway.
It was organized in 2 sessions. In the morning session the first topic that discussed was how to inspire to take Nature Photography. The subsequently What are the skills a Nature Photographer should possess?, how to keep the gear simple.
In the afternoon session ,both Photographers discuss their assignments; Michael's experiences are unique and his images are stunning, out of the world. His sense of humor is par excellence. Then Eddie has discussed how to break out of the box and try taking pictures in a different way.
Overall it was a good experience. I discusses more details in my following VLOG.

Golden streaks http://www.nagrotte.com/blog/2014/11/golden-streaks I observed this interesting pattern in Hermann Park, Houston. There is a boating place in this park. A lot of green algae is observed under water here. The algae with bright sunlight gives this picture an interesting texture.
